Mabuhay Foundation Celebrates Volunteer Leah Vicente’s Feature on DC News Now

We are thrilled to announce that DC News Now recently highlighted the Mabuhay Foundation and our dedicated volunteer, Leah Vicente, in their “DMV Doers” series. Leah, a former ER nurse, generously volunteers her time to support seniors in the Asian community of DMV. Her work reflects the very heart of Mabuhay Foundation’s mission—to empower and uplift the elderly by meeting their unique needs.

In her role, Leah guides seniors through complex healthcare systems, helping them understand Medicare, access health resources, and manage day-to-day tasks like online ordering. For seniors navigating new technologies or facing language barriers, Leah’s guidance is invaluable. “There are not enough nice people using their free time that can really help older people who may struggle with things we take for granted,” Leah shared in the feature, highlighting the gap in community support for our elderly.

Leah’s dedication doesn’t stop there; she also provides direction on immigration questions and connects seniors with the resources they need when additional assistance is required. Her commitment to giving back stems from a deep respect for seniors who have “paved the way” for future generations. “We are in a position to help change lives or impact the lives of people who have done so much for their families and others over the years,” she said, a sentiment that resonates deeply with all of us at Mabuhay.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to DC News Now for sharing Leah’s story and highlighting the vital work of Mabuhay Foundation in the community.
